Call of Duty is pretty leak-prone as far as big, triple-A series go, but in the case of a remastered version of 2009's Modern Warfare 2 campaign, the rumor ball got going quite early. Now, about two years after the first leak about the project, it seems that the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remaster is nearly upon us: a full trailer made its way online and a listing on Germany's PlayStation Store says it'll be out tomorrow, March 31.
VGC reports that the remaster, believed to be developed by Raven Software, will come out tomorrow, coinciding with Tuesday's weekly PlayStation Store update. People who purchase the remaster will receive a special set of cosmetics and items for 2020's Modern Warfare reboot and the recently released Warzone battle royale mode, as indicated by the new trailer for Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remaster that also leaked over the weekend.

In late February, South Korea's game rating board put up a rating for Modern Warfare 2: Campaign Remastered. Often, if a real game surfaces at a ratings board website, its release is nearly upon us, but back in February 2019 a listing also appeared on Europe's PEGI website. The first listing to allege the existence of a Modern Warfare 2 remaster came in March 2018 at Amazon Italy.
Since Modern Warfare 2's campaign is amongst the series' most-beloved (and most infamous), a remaster will likely find an audience even with the Modern Warfare reboot's story still fresh in many players' minds. It may also appeal to players who've fallen off of the series but who've gotten into Warzone since its release as a free, standalone experience earlier this month. Presumably, like Modern Warfare and Warzone, the remaster will be made available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Unlike the remastered version of the original Modern Warfare that Activision released a few years back, this remaster seems like it'll only include the campaign, just as the title suggests. Unfortunately, that would suggest the glory days of dual wielding Model 1887 shotguns is behind us... unless Infinity Ward decides to add them back into last year's reboot. Or maybe for a limited time mode in Warzone? C'mon, give the players what they really want.
