The next horror game from Frictional Games has a release date, and of course, it's just in time for the scariest season of all. Amnesia: Rebirth arrives on Oct. 20, 2020 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
In a new trailer posted today, Frictional shows off just how scary this new Amnesia will be. The studio's first follow-up to the series since its starting point, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Rebirth will follow Tasi Trianon on a "harrowing journey through desolation and despair, exploring the limits of human resilience." That's code for "get ready to get scared."
It seems like the contrast between light and dark will once again play a major role, with Tasi walking around with simple matches as her only beacon in some areas. And of course, there are monsters. Plenty of monsters, both on screen and, sometimes even more terrifying, just off-screen.
Despite being founded over a decade ago, Frictional Games has only made a handful of games since the original Amnesia. Alongside The Dark Descent and its horrifying water monster, Frictional published the follow-up Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and developed the absolutely fantastic Soma.
In an interview with USgamer, Creative Lead Fredrik Olsson told us that Frictional Games is planning on speeding up that pace a bit. It seems fitting that on the eve of a new dawn for Frictional, it would return to the series that garnered it so much acclaim and the love of jump-scare YouTubers the world over.
Amnesia: Rebirth will launch for PS4 and PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store on Oct. 20, 2020. I can't wait to experience it like I do all Amnesia games: cowering in a well-lit room under a blanket, peering out from behind my fingers.
