The Detroit Lions unveil their upcoming schedule with a little help from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

There's no denying Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Switch has been a great comfort during the COVID-19 pandemic. It's also brought out some instances of creativity from unlikely sources. Case in point: The Detroit Lions revealed its schedule for the upcoming football season through a series of skits created in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

An admission on my part: I know nothing about American football. I'm not sports-crazy to begin with, plus I come from the land of the ice and snow where it's all about hockey, hockey, hockey. But even an ignoramus like me can appreciate the jokes the Lions choreographed. It's a fun, clever video.

"Big shout out to @animalcrossing for holding it down while we wait for football season," tweets the official Detroit Lions Twitter account. You can see the video for yourself embedded in the tweet.

It starts with our little Lions man "burying" the Chicago Bears, and rolls on to dunk on other rival teams. We see an "ugly" Green Bay Packers helmet get demolished at Tom Nook's work bench (the choices to initiate the deed are "Yes" and "Of course), and watch Blathers recoil at the offer of tickets for Washington's team. The avatar approaches Jolly Redd's ship, which is flying the banner of the Minnesota Vikings. Shout-out to Editor-in-Chief Kat Bailey who swore a blood oath to the Vikings, and now shares association with a shady kitsune who sells haunted art out of a floating tub.

Shout-out to the Lions man's house décor, which is solid blue and mostly empty save for a cat tree. A real lion would turn a cat tree into splinters, but the reference is nice.

We've been writing, writing, writing about Animal Crossing: New Horizons since the game came out on March 20. Senior Editor Caty re-evaluated the game on its one-month anniversary and determined there are several good reasons why people are still enamored with it. If you're just getting started, we have Animal Crossing: New Horizons guides galore.
