Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Catch a Whale Shark

The Whale Shark is one of the largest fish you can catch in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Here's how to get your hands on one.

Once summer has begun in Animal Crossing New Horizons you'll start to notice sharks swimming in the oceans around your island. The largest of the bunch is the Whale Shark, a pretty rare fish that can fetch you a fair amount of Bells if you sell it. In this guide we'll explain how to catch a Whale Shark, what shadow size to watch out for, and the sale price.

How to Catch a Whale Shark in Animal Crossing New Horizons

To catch a whale shark in Animal Crossing New Horizons you will need to head to your island's beaches, as they can only be caught in the ocean. The Whale Shark is available between the months of June and September in the Northern Hemisphere (December-March in Southern Hemisphere). The Whale Shark appears at all times of the day, so you will just need to look for the correct shadow and cast your line. To speed things up you can use fish bait.

Whale Shark Shadow Size

Given that the Whale Shark is the only shark to appear in the day during the month of June (for a look at the other fish added in Summer, head here), you only need to look for one specific shadow size. It is medium-sized, with a noticeable fin on it. We've included a screenshot below.
