Animal Crossing New Horizons: How to Get Hardwood, Softwood and Wood
You'll need wood to make a wide variety of items in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Here's where to get Hardwood, Softwood and Wood.
Animal Crossing New Horizons relies heavily on expanded crafting systems. You'll need Wood to make a lot of the items you'll need to build out your island, everything from furniture to tools requires it as a component after all. To help you get started with crafting in Animal Crossing New Horizons, we've put together this guide on collecting all kinds of wood. Let's get started.
On this page:
How to Collect Wood in Animal Crossing New Horizons
To collect Wood in Animal Crossing New Horizons, you will need either a Flimsy Axe or an Axe (more on crafting those in this guide). Once you have one, equip it and walk over to a tree. Hit the tree with an axe and Wood will come out of it. You can hit a tree three times and get Wood pieces from it. If you have a non-flimsy axe, you can only hit it twice, as a third hit will chop it down (more on that here).
How to Get Hardwood
To get Hardwood in Animal Crossing New Horizons just follow the same steps for getting regular Wood. Hardwood is ever so slightly rarer, though has a good chance to drop for each tree you hit with an axe.

How to Get Softwood
To collect Softwood in Animal Crossing New Horizons just hit trees with an axe, using the same method as above. You'll have a chance to get Softwood from each hit, so going tree to tree you'll get some in no time.
