Anthem's Latest Update Boosts Loot Drops in Higher Grandmaster Levels

BioWare continues to patch over Anthem's loot problem.

Anthem's launch has not been a smooth one, to say the least. Issues continue to mount as BioWare tries to improve the current game. One of Anthem's biggest problems at the moment is in regards to endgame loot. First, the community has complained that the loot drop rate is too low. Second, the loot in the higher difficulties, Grandmaster 2 and Grandmaster 3, aren't worth the effort it takes to finish that content. Finally, the previous system of inscriptions, randomly rolled boosts to each weapon, was leading to bad or useless bonuses on weapons.

Twice, patch bugs have seen Anthem's loot drop rate increase to higher levels, only for BioWare to readjust it lower. Both times, fans have expressed a preference for the high drop rate and asked BioWare to change it back, with the second time leading to a proposed boycott of Anthem this week. Anthem live service head Chad Robertson has admitted that BioWare is not happy with the current loot.

"We appreciate all the feedback from the community on the game. We love the passion and share it. We’re not yet fully happy with the game’s loot behavior either," said Robertson in a series of tweets. "In the next few months, we’re expecting to make significant changes, but we’re starting with some incremental ones so we can better navigate that evolution. Our goal is to ensure the best possible player experience."

BioWare has already made a few changes to Anthem's loot, notably changing inscriptions so that weapons only roll with useful bonuses. The studio also removed Common (White) and Uncommon (Green) loot drops for level 30 players. Today's patch addresses the issues with loot in Grandmaster 2 and Grandmaster 3. The exact changes are listed in a Reddit post today:

  • Masterwork & Legendary drop rates have been increased for Grandmaster 2 and Grandmaster 3 difficulty levels.

  • Masterwork & Legendary drop rates have been increased for harder enemies at all difficulty levels. This includes: Legendary Ancient Ash Titan, Elite Ancient Ash Titan, Legendary Fury, Legendary Ursix, and Legendary Luminary.

These are server side changes, so players should see the difference immediately, without the need for a patch. It's another good sign, pointing towards continuing improvements for Anthem. Especially with The Division 2 releasing today and Destiny 2's well-received Season of the Drifter in full swing, Anthem doesn't have much time to improve itself.
