Apex Legends isn't the newest and hottest battle royale out there thanks to Call of Duty: Warzone, but fans of Respawn's particular take on the genre are about to get a lot of their most requested features. Today, along with a new Stories from the Outlands video and a tease for a limited-time event, Respawn's announcing that a Duos playlist and map rotations are coming to Apex permanently on April 7.
The 7th will kick off a two-week long "Old Ways Lore Event," centered on the Legend Bloodhound. There's a new animated short that gives Bloodhound's origin story and a look at their Felagi kin and the event will introduce new skins to earn or buy, but the really significant changes here are to Apex's playlists.
Duos mode has been available in Apex for limited-time events twice—now, you'll always have the choice of playing in matches with 2 or 3-person squads (Respawn's official update doesn't say whether this extends to ranked matches, but those have always been Trios lobbies in the past). Also, both World's Edge and Apex's original map Kings Canyon will be in permanent rotation moving forward for Duos and Trios play.
There will likely be some other gameplay changes added with the Old Ways update, but on April 7 your squad will probably want to check out Bloodhound's town takeover on World's Edge. It'll be located in the northwest quadrant of the map, and it'll feature deadly Prowlers, the large reptilian beasts that tried to rip players to shreds in Titanfall 2's famous "Effect and Cause" campaign level. If you survive the Prowlers and other squads, some high-tier weapons and armor will be yours for the taking.
Completionists and cosmetics collectors will be glad to hear that the Old Ways will have a similar free event prize track to the recent System Override event, which was fairly easy to complete in the allotted two weeks. There will also be new exclusive direct purchase skins available similar to the store in last year's Voidwalker takeover, and the skins from Apex's very first event, Legendary Hunt, will be made available again throughout the Old Ways' two weeks.
The map rotation change is big, but adding Duos as a permanent offering will surely have an effect on Apex's overall balance and longevity moving forward. A lot of players may end up gravitating toward one mode more-or-less exclusively, and accomodating 2-person squads could shake up how Legends' exclusive abilities are devised and tweaked in relation to one another.
