Apex Legends Is Sneaking Wallrunning Into Its New Halloween Mode
Titanfall mechanics... intensifying...
In Apex Legends, Respawn is bringing back Revenant's spooky-ooky shadow realm for Halloween, and if it was just a repeat of last year's Shadowfall event you might wonder why we'd bother bringing it up. It's not, though—2020's Fight or Fright event introduces a new spin on Apex's questionably canonical undead dimension, and it's even bringing in a beloved mechanic from the Titanfall games. Apex is finally toying with wallrunning.
Yes, in the new limited-time Shadow Royale mode launching on Oct. 22, you'll be able to flex your Titan pilot skills a bit, but only if you've already died. In last year's Shadowfall mode, which lent itself to some dubious teamwork arrangements, Respawn introduced the idea of Shadow Legends: undead characters lacking Legend abilities and guns but granted the ability to run faster, spider-crawl up walls, and strike with heavy melee hits.
"Fans of previous Respawn games should keep their eyes peeled for certain...mobility enhancements...when playing as a Shadow Legend," Respawn says. Yes, when reanimated as a Shadow in 2020's new Halloween mode, you'll also be able to dash along walls Titanfall-style. While this doesn't necessarily mean we'll see wallrunning added to Apex's regular battle royale modes, Respawn has used limited-time modes to try out new features (like Apex's Evo Shields) before.

The Shadow Royale format also looks like it'll fix up that collusion problem with Shadowfall from last year. Like the name suggests, Shadow Royale is much closer to a regular battle royale: squads of three will drop into the nighttime version of Kings Canyon, but any players on a team who die will be resurrected as Shadows over and over until their squad's last living player croaks—then, the whole trio is eliminated for good. Squads can also recruit a Shadow Prowler, those undead beasts that hunted players in Season 5's story-driven Quest missions.
It wouldn't be an Apex event without some free and premium cosmetics on-offer, of course. All the old Halloween skins, like Witch Wraith and Scary Clown Caustic, are coming back this year with some new variations in tow. A free experience track will also grant players a weapon charm, gun skin, and new gooped-up look for Pathfinder if they so desire. Now that Mirage is actually a viable Legend, I might just have to bite the bullet and get that damn cowboy outfit for him.
The Fight or Fright event will probably be the last big hurrah for Season 6, which saw the introduction of Rampart and a new crafting system back in August. Teasers for the next Legend are already in the game, cross-play is now out in public beta, and Season 7 isn't too far away now. The Fight or Fright event will end on Nov. 3, so get your wallrunning in while you can.
