Apex Legends May Have Accidentally Added Another Buff to Gibraltar

Respawn is investigating the unannounced ability.

Respawn recently released a new patch that made some big changes to Apex Legends' big characters. But an extra buff might have been mistakenly added to Gibraltar that makes him even more useful than he was already.

The 1.1.1 Apex Legends update buffed the game's biggest characters, Gibraltar and Caustic, to make up for their size and apparently larger hitboxes. Both characters were given a passive damage reduction, and Gibraltar's Gun Shield was made to absorb more damage.

But one Reddit user named VonArne seems to have discovered an added perk to Gibraltar's shield, as it can now disarm Arc Stars. These Arc Stars act as sticky stun grenades, but according to footage recorded by VonArne, Gibraltar can unstick these grenades on his person if it lands on his shield, simply by putting it away.

Although this was brought to attention following the 1.1.1 update, other players allege that Gibraltar has been able to do this since the beginning. Apex Legends community manager Jay Frechette commented in the subreddit post for the discovery by saying the developers will investigate it. This suggests that the added ability may not have been intentional.

Apex Legends takes the popular battle royale formula and adds a class-based, hero mechanic to it, similar to Overwatch. As such, there can be times, like in Overwatch, where a character's unique traits and abilities lead to unintended side-effects. That could be what's happening here with Gibraltar.
