Apex Legends' New Season Drops a Giant Mining Rig in the Middle of World's Edge
Also, Revenant's looking quite deadly in the arena.
After weeks of teasing the upcoming season with a story that saw its supposed next character cruelly killed off, Respawn Entertainment has finally given a look at Apex Legend's next season in action with a new trailer. In it, you can see Revenant, Season 4's legend, demonstrate his borderline scary abilities on a changed World's Edge map.
The gameplay trailer starts off as a mock promo-reel for Hammond Robotics, a big military tech corporation in the Apex and Titanfall universe. That's our introduction to the Planet Harvester, a big piece of mining equipment that's been planted in World's Edge. It looks like Hammond's actions have made the already treacherous terrain even more dangerous, with new lava fissures opening up throughout the arena.
Revenant, who was officially introduced in a heavy story trailer last week, then gets a moment to shine in the Apex Games. It looks like Revenant's ultimate ability allows him to plant a structure that transforms him and his teammates into Shadow versions of themselves, which look like they work similar to the limited-time Shadowfall mode that first teased Revenant back in October. Revenant can also lob some kind of long-range projectile, and it looks like he's got the ability to continuously crawl up the sides of tall buildings.
The trailer shows no signs of a double fake-out for Forge, the character originally announced for Season 4, who was then later killed by Revenant in an animated short. While it certainly seems likely that the story of Forge, Revenant, and Hammond Robotics could continue to play out over Season 4, Apex has yet to introduce two new Legends in a single season.
A new post on Apex's official website runs down some of the finer points of the map changes coming to World's Edge, including details on new non-randomized weapon racks and an explanation of how those new lava fissures aren't quite the death traps they seem.
Players won't have to wait long to get their hands on Revenant or drop into the revamped World's Edge. Season 4 (a.k.a. "Assimilation") launches tomorrow, February 4, on the one-year anniversary of Apex's release. It will also introduce a new premium battle pass that appears to include a number of Legendary simulant-inspired skins for other characters, in case you want to take to the arena with Revenant as a squad of bionic warriors.
