Apex Legends' Next Character Seemingly Leaks Ahead of Season 3

Is this the hacker who downed the Repulsor, and our next Legend?

With just over a month of Apex Legends' second season to go, hopefully we'll be hearing more soon from Respawn Entertainment about who's joining the battle royale fray in Kings Canyon. In the meantime, photos claimed to have been leaked from a conference for GameStop managers give glimpses of what could be the new Legend and new weapon slated for Season 3: a hacker known as Crypto and the Charge Rifle.

Sure looks like our Repulsor-downing culprit. | Teves3D via Reddit

The photos, posted to Reddit by user Teves3D, appear to show a finalized character portrait of Crypto with a companion drone, as well as the Charge Rifle, a weapon that appeared in Titanfall and Titanfall 2.

Crypto has been rumored to be a forthcoming Legend since before players got their hands on any characters beyond the orignal eight. An unidentified portrait, found in the background of a piece of Pathfinder concept art, matches the character model associated with Crypto originally unearthed by dataminers in March. This same datamining leak uncovered Season 2's Legend, Wattson, months in advance.

In the cinematic trailer for Season 2, a mysterious figure closely resembling the datamined model is shown hacking into and destroying the Apex Games' Repulsor tower, thereby unleashing the Flyers and Leviathans that currently crowd the map. Further datamining concerning Crypto from Reddit user FrozenFroh suggests that the Legend's unique abilities may revolve around surveillance and EMP tools.

In Titanfall and Titanfall 2, the Charge Rifle could deal a good amount of damage to both Titans and pilots, requiring a lengthy trigger hold to prime each shot. This is similar to how Apex's Havoc rifle currently operates when equipped with a particular hop-up, so perhaps if the Charge Rifle does come to the game it'll be tweaked to distinguish its role in the weapon set.

Also pictured in the photos is a skin for Gibraltar that resembles a cross between Frankenstein's monster and Immortan Joe. If, as Teves3D claims, this skin is intended for a Halloween related event, it could be slated for inclusion in a loot pack-centric Collection Event similar to the Iron Crown event that just wrapped up. We reached out to Respawn Entertainment shortly after the photos were posted to Reddit, but a representative for the developer says they have nothing to comment on at this time.
