Apex Legends is off to a great start and Respawn has the numbers to prove it. Respawn CEO Vince Zampella says Apex Legends has surpassed 10 million players in just 72 hours and currently has more than 1 million concurrent players.
"This has been a truly incredible journey. We tested and tweaked. We argued and agreed. We got to a point where we felt some magic," writes Zampella in a statement. "We knew it would be risky to take the franchise in this direction, to go free to play, and do a surprise launch. But we fell in love with Apex Legends and wanted, needed, other people to play it to."
If you need some figures to compare Apex Launch's figures with, PUBG hit 10 million copies in under six months. But PUBG is also a retail game that sells for $30. Free-to-play rival Fortnite reportedly hit 10 million concurrent players just during last weekend's in-game Marshmello concert. So there's still a big gap between Apex Legends and Epic's battle royale king.
However, it's a good start for Respawn. We also know Respawn is working on yet another Titanfall project for later this year. But for now, we're inclined to believe that Apex Legends is going to stick around for a good while.
