Apex Legends Season 2 Reveal: Wattson, Ranked Mode, Improved Battle Pass Challenges

Apex Legends Season 2 Reveal: Wattson, Ranked Mode, Improved Battle Pass Challenges

Respawn is addressing major complaints for Apex Legends Season 2. Will it be enough?

Respawn announced the second season of Apex Legends today at its EA Play livestream event. There was a lot announced today including a new weapon, improved battle pass, Ranked Mode, and the 10th Legend, Wattson.

Respawn kicked things off by announcing the L-Star LMG, a new weapon straight from Titanfall 2. This machine gun is apparently so powerful, it's only available as a care package weapon. Which means whatever ammo you get with the drop is what you'll have for the duration of your match, the L-Star won't be compatible with other ammo types.

The studio then revealed details about its second season battle pass for Season 2. Dubbed "Battle Charge," the new Battle Pass addresses many of the chief complaints about the first season Battle Pass. Challenges are no longer time-based, and they'll stack so you can knock out however many levels of the pass you want for faster completion. Expect new skins, rewards, and four new legendary skins.

Apex Legends will also introduce a Ranked Mode in Season 2. With six tiers, players can rise through the ranks and take on the best Apex Legends players in the game. Rewards for corresponding ranks will be paid out at the end of the Ranked season.

The biggest news from today's EA livestream was the reveal of the newest character. Named Wattson, the 10th Legend is a fortress building wunderkind whose abilities allow her to create electric fences wherever she is. Her Ultimate ability allows her to summon a Pylon that acts as a turret and support center that charges the team's shields.

Wattson combines the building mechanics of Fortnite, with a more support-like role that makes her seem like a powerful ally in any Apex Legends team composition.
