Apex Legends Season 7 Features a Floating City and the Battle Royale's First Vehicle
A new map and a new way to get around are coming to the Apex Games.
Look, contracting death barrier aside, if you're making a traditional battle royale game you've got to figure out some way to keep players inside the bounds of your map. Apex Legends has served up a couple islands so far, but it's next new map launching with Season 7 will be a giant, floating city—and, because Apex is set in a not-so-utopian sci-fi universe, it looks like it's a haven for the ultra-rich.
As glimpsed today in a story trailer for Season 7: Ascension, the Apex Games are relocating to Olypmus, an urban playground held aloft by what appears to be a ring of giant blimp-like reservoirs. The trailer, which prominently features Season 7's new astrophysicist legend Horizon, also introduces a new way for players to get around the streets and plazas of Olympus.
Horizon rides up on a Trident, a hovering three-seater vehicle that looks to be Apex's equivalent of, say, a Warthog in Halo minus the gatling gun. It looks a lot like a mini version of the dropships that fly in when players respawn in Apex, and as the first pilotable vehicle included in Respawn's battle royale (no, the Loot Train doesn't count, and sorry to all the Titan-wanters) it'll surely shake up the way firefights and looting play out.
One large part of Olympus appears to be hidden under a whirling dome of energy, which could be concealing any number of gameplay twists beneath its aura. Perhaps the bubble has to do with Horizon's unique Legend abilities, which include a gravity lift that can hoist players into the air and some kind of black hole trap.

Season 7's launch will also coincide with Apex's debut on Steam. Right now, Apex's Halloween Fight-or-Fright event is still going on alongside a limited-time teaser quest for Horizon. Apex's Nintendo Switch launch has been delayed until next year and probably won't happen until the next season rolls around, but players on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 (which can also enjoy cross-play in beta now) will get to start up Season 7 on Nov. 4.
