There's a week between now and the launch of Apex Legends' fifth season, and it looks like Skull Town's days might be numbered. Apex's original map Kings Canyon back to the battle royale's rotation, but the launch trailer for Season 5, "Fortune's Favor," ends with an earth-shattering event that sees those iconic bones go bye-bye.
The trailer centers on Loba Andrade, the new Legend being introduced with the season's launch on May 12. Underneath Kings Canyon, she explores a hidden facility that appears to be where Revenant's simulacra bodies—and what's left of his human body—are stored. Revenant killed her parents, so she's here to take revenge. It doesn't quite go to plan, though.
With a small cameo from the autonomous attack bots players mowed down in Titanfall 2's campaign (maybe they'll play a bigger role in the season), Loba has to make a daring escape from the facility, utilizing what looks to be a teleportation device straight out of Tribes. She makes it out in one piece as the lab crumbles, revealing what looks to be the skull of Skull Town sinking into the abyss.
Chances look good, then, that Loba's master thief skill set includes a speedy teleport and that the most hectic drop zone since Apex's launch is going away. Granted, it might not be a permanent goodbye; Apex has shuffled through map versions a bit, just as Fortnite has mixed and matched its locales. Still, if this is indeed the end for Skull Town, you might want to squeeze in some spicy drops while you still can.
We're still waiting on what else Season 5 will bring to Apex Legends beyond Loba. A big map change to the recently reinstated Kings Canyon certainly seems plausible, and every previous season has added a new weapon to the Apex arsenal, but it seems we'll be waiting for word on that type of thing until we get a gameplay trailer showing off Loba's actual abilities.
Until then, now seems like a good time to brush up on Titanfall lore and get some matches in on the limited-time Battle Armor mode, which sees Apex trying on some Call of Duty: Warzone-like loadouts.
