Apex Legends' Wraith-Themed Voidwalker Event Will Bring New Lore and Loot
On September 3, Respawn's battle royale is giving love to its portal professional.
Apex Legends players bid the game's temporary solo mode farewell earlier this week, but starting on September 3 they'll have another limited-time mode to enjoy. Voidwalker, a two-week event themed around the character Wraith and the mysterious origins of her phasing powers, will also bring a significant map change, new loot and challenges, and a double XP weekend to help players complete their battle pass grind before Season 2's end.
As soon as Apex's previous event ended, players noticed markers placed around the battle royale's map hinting at another town takeover. This time it'll be dedicated to Wraith, and the newly excavated part of Kings Canyon will be easily identifiable by the giant swirling portal above it.
Respawn Entertainment's post announcing the event hints that lore tidbits related to the experimentation that gave Wraith her powers will be scattered around the site. On that front, it seems like the big portal will let players skydive back into or away from the excavation site, similar to the red-ballooned jump towers scattered around the map.
This event's limited time mode is called Armed and Dangerous. In it, weapons will be limited to shotguns and snipers, while also reducing the overall amount of available loot. As for cosmetics, a few badges, weapon skins, and other items will be tied limited-time challenges lasting for the duration of the event. A few character and weapon skins, including a Legendary skin for Wraith, will rotate through the game's direct purchase store alongside six new Legendary items that will join its core loot pool, meaning you'll be able to purchase or create them with crafting metals once they're added. Finally, from 10 a.m. PT on September 6 through 10 a.m. PT on September 9, Top 5 placements and wins will earn players double the amount of XP for both their account level and the Season 2 battle pass.
In a post earlier this week, Respawn's Director of Product Management Lee Horn explained how Apex's different types of events would work moving forward. This Voidwalker event, like Season 1's Legendary Hunt event before it, is categorized as a Themed Event. The debuts of new Legends are reserved for the start of the game's seasons, and Collection Events where new cosmetic items are made available through limited-time loot packs, which soured some players on the game's Iron Crown event, will return in the future.
