A new date has finally been set for Arkane's time-looping assassination game. Deathloop is coming to PS5 and PC on May 21, 2021.
The reportedly timed PS5 console exclusive was originally set for a launch this year, before a delay pushed it into Q2 2021. Recent store listings spotted by sites like Gematsu indicated it might be coming in May, and today, Bethesda confirmed as much.
A next-gen shooter from Arkane Lyon, the team that made Dishonored, Deathloop looks to deliver much of the same. There are special powers and abilities, various weapons, bits of intel, and eight targets to hunt down and take out in a single time loop to escape. On top of all that, the player-character Colt will have to accomplish his assassinations while being hounded by Julianna, who wants to keep the loop going—which means taking out Colt, in whatever way possible.
The Colt-Julianna dynamic gets pretty interesting, especially considering another player can take control of Julianna in your game. Finally, I can live out my dreams of ruining other people's story progression, just like invading in Dark Souls.
Deathloop's PS5 console exclusivity is a pretty interesting tidbit, considering the recent acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft. Arkane, which falls under that umbrella, will still be putting out a PlayStation 5 console exclusive launch, as will Tango Gameworks with Ghostwire: Tokyo. So yes, technically, a branch of Xbox is publishing several PS5 console exclusives. This is truly the next generation.
Deathloop hits PS5 and PC on May 21, 2021.
