Assassin's Creed Odyssey Uses the Same Button for 'Interact' and 'Assassinate', Chaos Ensues

I didn't choose the assassin life, the assassin life chose me.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey offers up a beautiful tour around Ancient Greece. It’s a tour filled with wildlife, mountains, oceans, and accidentally stabbing innocents in the throat by pressing the right button at the wrong time.

In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, there are two main functions for the Triangle/Y button: one press is to ‘Interact’, which will have you either rifling through a chest or bag, looting it in a split second, or talking to a character, but the other function of the button is to assassinate. As you might have guessed from the title of the game, assassinations feature pretty heavily in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

You might see where I’m going with this. Idly strolling around a camp in Ancient Greece, I was hitting the Y/Triangle button repeatedly, to quickly loot a few bags that had been left lying on the ground. In a split second, and before my brain could react to the change, Kassandra had instead focused her attention on a guard that happened to be stood incredibly close by. In that split second, she had stabbed the guard straight through the neck, which his comrades weren’t too pleased about.

Instantly, the entire camp of Spartan soldiers were coming at Kassandra with deadly force. It’s a bit like a scene from Pulp Fiction, where John Travolta’s character accidentally shoots a man in the face when their car goes over a bump in the road. But unfortunately for Kassandra, there’s no Winston Wolfe on hand to clean up her mess. Instead, there’s plenty of Spartan guards in the vicinity with spears and shields, all suddenly very angry with one woman for mistakenly stabbing a camp guard.

From there, my only option was to hightail it out of the Spartan camp, as rapidly as possible. Once you’ve stabbed someone in the throat in the middle of a camp, it turns out their friends aren’t so quick to forget about said stabbing, and Kassandra was faced with swords, spears, and flaming arrows the next time she attempted to enter the camp.

In the future, I think I might need to be a bit more mindful of how freely I use the ‘Interact’ button in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and I suggest you are as well.
