Avengers Project Marks Collaboration Between Marvel and Square Enix

It seems Kingdom Hearts 3 isn't getting a Marvel Universe world.

News by Mike Williams, .

Square Enix and Marvel announced today a "multi-game partnership" to develop games based on Marvel's Avengers. Little information was given on "The Avengers Project", but the brief teaser trailer showed logos for Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, and it sounds like Crystal Dynamics is taking the lead on this one.

"The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018," said Marvel in a brief synopsis.

"A game based on beloved Marvel heroes, The Avengers project is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics – longtime developers of the award winning Tomb Raider series – in collaboration with lauded Deus Ex developer Eidos-Montréal."

Everyone expected a Marvel Universe world in Kingdom Hearts 3, so this is surprising turn of events.

These two studios have some serious credentials between them so I am interested. Just hope that with Disney's money at their disposal we don't get another Epic Mickey, pardon the expression...

I remember hearing that Marvel wanted to get serious about video games, and that they wanted a Marvel video game universe, like the comic and movie universes. Nice to see that happening, in the hands of competent developers.

Hope Disney knows SE doesn't put games out in a timely manner. I guess they should with Kingdom Hearts 3 though.

@TheWildCard That's only true for Squeenix Japan (specifically Nomura). Eidos and Crystal Dynamics will be handling the development. That means the Marvel games will probably only be delayed 3-6 months, rather than 3-6 years. Edited January 2017 by NateDizzy

I like how this isn't stiffing us on some MAHVEL action from Capcpom like last time too.

A good non-mobile, non-Lego related Avengers game is long overdue, so I’m really glad by these news.

@Roto13 Mmmm… So we have to assume the announced Spider-man game in development for the PS4 is not going to be part of that shared Universe, what with the different developers and exclusivity with Sony?

@docexe Who knows? The Spider-Man movie is also from Sony and that's part of the MCU. :P
