The Top 25 RPG countdown continues as we celebrate a pioneer that deserves more love: Ultima 7. But first we've got a ton of other topics to cover in the world of RPGs [download link here]!
The Activision Blizzard layoffs had been brewing for awhile when they hit, but they didn't make them any less painful. They suggest an uncertain future for Blizzard, creator of the most successful MMORPG ever, which may be forced to create more games on a short timescale. Kat and Nadia talk about these developments and the recent Nintendo Direct announcements, plus celebrate the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy 8, which was good.
In the second segment, we welcome guest Rowan Kaiser to discuss Ultima 7, a surprisingly underappreciated RPG trailblazer regarded as the apex of the series. Kaiser explains how it transformed open-world RPGs, why it was so amazing back in 1992, and why it's still worth checking out today as we add it to our Top 25 RPG countdown!
