Battlefield 5's ongoing post-launch seasonal content continues with Tides of War Chapter 2: Lightning Strikes. There will be new modes, new challenges, and two new Grand Operations for players to take part in starting later this week.
Tides of War chapters are basically seasons in Battlefield 5's free battle pass. Each chapter has a branching progression path filled with challenges catering to different skillsets. So players who prefer to play a certain way can choose specific progression paths that better suit their preferences. Complete all the challenges in a chapter and players earn a pre-determined reward.
For Lightning Strikes, Battlefield 5 players will be getting various types of new content. First up on January 17 is a new limited time Squad Conquest mode. It's an 8 vs. 8 PvP mode where two opposing teams compete to capture and hold flags until the other team runs out of respawn tickets. The event will last until January 30, and players will have a chance to earn a new Zk-383 submachine gun for the Medic class and a Modele 1944 semi-automatic rifle for the Assault class.
From January 31 to February 13 players can partake in the Breakthrough and Frontlines modes to complete challenges towards earning the Final Countdown headgear and M1922 MMG for the Support class. Also coming in February is a new co-op mode called Combined Arms which is a separate mode from online multiplayer modes. Combined Arms helps players improve their co-op play in a non-competitive, objective-based mode.
On February 21, two new Grand Operations will be available on the Panzerstorm and Arras maps. Grand Operations are multi-stage PvP multiplayer modes where players must complete an objective over the course of a "day." Each Grand Operation comprises three "days" with each stage featuring a new objective taking place on a new section of the map.
Lastly, from March 7 to March 20, Battlefield 5 will have a new limited-time mode called "Rush." The classic PvP mode will have one team rushing to arm two bombs, while a defending team tries to stop them. Rush will be available on the Twisted Steel, Narvik, and Devastation maps.
Battlefield 5 also teased a little more of its upcoming battle royale mode Firestorm, which is coming sometime in March. There are still no concrete details like its player count or map info, but the tense trailer gives a good glimpse of how vehicles will factor into the mode.
