Update [12:06 p.m. ET]: Our original article mistakenly attributed a tease for upcoming Bayonetta 3 news to PlatinumGames, rather than the author of the source article. While the developers at PlatinumGames did share their hopes for the coming year, they did not specify Bayonetta 3 by name. We have updated the article and regret the error.
The story follows:
Not much has been seen of the third Bayonetta game since its initial announcement, but it sounds like that will change fairly soon. In a New Year's chat, PlatinumGames' Atsushi Inaba says there are various announcements on the way from the studio.
We can also expect more info about Babylon's Fall, which got a new gameplay trailer during Sony's last State of Play stream before the new year, sometime this summer.
PlatinumGames is also working on Bayonetta 3. After getting announced during The Game Awards 2017, Bayonetta 3 conspicuously disappeared from the public eye. Yusuke Hashimoto, who worked on the first Bayonetta and directed Bayonetta 2, departed PlatinumGames last February, though it was never confirmed if he was working on the third installment of the series. It'll be good to know that Bayonetta's third adventure is progressing in some way, and from the sounds of it, we might know soon.
Inaba and PlatinumGames president Kenichi Sato both confirmed that announcements are on the way from the studio in 2020, both big and small. Coming off this year's surprising hit Astral Chain, the studio already has two more games in the works and doesn't seem to be showing signs of slowing down.
"Last year, we said that 2019 would be a year where the curtain rises for a new stage for PlatinumGames," Sato says. "We're a bit late on that, but I believe we'll have several big announcements to deliver early in the new year, so please look forward to that."
