After an extended absence, it appears as though Biomutant is going to make an appearance next week for a brand new gameplay demo. This will be the first time we've seen or heard anything of Biomutant since August 2018.
Biomutant's developer announced that their game would be present at IGN's Summer of Gaming showcase next week. The game is going to make an appearance at some point on June 24, with a brand new gameplay demo and developer interview.
If you're not familiar with the title, Biomutant is the debut game from developer Experiment 101. It was first revealed back in 2017 with a short gameplay demo, and would resurface again at Gamescom 2018 for a different gameplay demo, which you can see just above.
I saw that demo running with a presentation from development staff back at Gamescom 2018. It was actually quite an impressive showcase, detailing how the mouse-like protagonist would need to mutate and evolve to gain new abilities and help it through dangerous new territories. For example, there was a scenario where the protagonist would need to mutate to absorb otherwise-deadly poisonous spores in order to proceed into a new area.
But after this brief showcase, we've heard nothing about Biomutant since. There was some speculation that the game had been ultimately canceled by publisher THQ Nordic, but that's all been cast aside now with Biomutant's impending return.
Experiment 101's game was originally meant to release in 2019, a release window that it obviously missed. Now, we're just around the corner from seeing brand new Biomutant gameplay, for the first time in almost two years.
