It's the tenth anniversary of Awesome Games Done Quick, and runners are pulling out some tricks to celebrate. For some, that means incredible speedrunning tech; but for one, that also meant a little surprise.
Last night, runner "BloodThunder" was speeding his way through the halls of Rapture in BioShock when the game seemingly crashed. After hitting a Windows blue screen, the whole crowd lets out a groan, until it fades to black and something else fades in.
You're finally awake, huh? Bloodthunder's fake-out seems like it was unknown to not just the crowd, but the staff and crew. He apologizes a few times to the tech crew behind the scenes for giving them a scare. Later on Twitter, he confirmed that even the couch-the other runners sitting behind him, helping commentate the run-knew he had "something planned but didn't know what it was going to be."
As of this writing, AGDQ 2020 has passed the $1 million mark. The annual charity event is part of the larger Games Done Quick series of events, raising money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation through a telethon-style speedrunning marathon. The event ends late tomorrow night, but there have already been some fantastic runs, including a Fallout run with glitches so interesting it needed some visual aids.
