Today marks the first free update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and fans have a great deal to look forward to. Not only are there ongoing tweaks and balance changes incoming, players can also dive in and check out brand-new content. The update is called Operation: Absolute Zero.
"Black Ops 4's launch is just barely behind us, and the response from the community has been incredible. Here at Treyarch, we've aggressively tracked daily community feedback, and we're proud to say that many new features and content included in this update have been inspired by player input," said the studio in its announcement post.
On the multiplayer side of things, Black Ops 4 is getting a new specialist: Zero. She's a hacker, focused on disrupting enemy attacks and formations with her abilities. Players can unlock Zero by completing the first Tier of the revamped Black Market. You can also unlock new weapons—including the aemon 3XB SMG, SWAT RFT assault rifle, and Secret Santa melee weapon—as well as new Weapon Camos, Reactive Camos, and Reticles.
Today offers significant updates to Black Ops 4's Blackout mode. First up, there are seasonal changes, giving the entire Blackout map a winter-themed look. Nuketown Island, Hydro Dam, and Factory are getting the most love, but there will also be softer winter lighting across the entire map and new smoke trails so you can see where folks are dropping.
Tomorrow will add the classic Black Ops multiplayer map Hijacked to the Blackout enviroment, putting the luxury yacht in the water in the northwest of the map. There's also the new ARAV armored vehicle, allowing you to punish other teams with its mounted turret. Zero can be used in Blackout, in addition to the gladiators from COD Zombies IX, the latter after you complete the objectives required to unlock them in that mode.
Zombies players are also getting a little bit of love. Daily Callings are new daily missions that will reward bonus experience and Nebulium Plasma. Zombies players can also unlock Black Market tiers by completing 15 rounds in Zombies. Finally, there's the new Black Ops Authenticity Stamp, allowing players to verify and share their in-game accomplishments, including kills, weapons used, perks equipped, and more.
It's a hefty update to finish out 2018 and kick off 2019 in Call of Duty. It's coming first to PlayStation 4, but Xbox One and PC players can expect similar updates in the future.
