Diablo 3 is coming to the Nintendo Switch marking yet another console Blizzard Entertainment's gothic dungeon crawler is available to play on. And according to Blizzard it's not far-fetched for players to soon be able to engage in cross-platform play.
"It's a question of when, not if," a Blizzard Representative told Business Insider during a Diablo 3 preview. Blizzard is "actively working" with Sony and Microsoft to enable cross-console play with the Nintendo Switch. Diablo 3 is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 as well last-gen platforms like the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Cross-platform play has already been achieved with games like Minecraft and Fortnite: Battle Royale. While Sony previously kept the PlayStation 4 walled off from fellow consoles, it recently announced that it will be exploring cross-platform play with select titles lowering the barrier for a game like Diablo 3 to support cross-play in the future.
Diablo 3 was first announced for the Nintendo Switch earlier this year when we got a chance to preview it. Diablo 3: Eternal Collection will be released on November 2 and include the expansions as well as exclusive content like Zelda skins. It's unclear how cross-play will work when the Switch version features exclusive cosmetics, but that's probably part of the discussion.
