Development is still underway on the follow-up to Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines following the departure of several of its leads. Now, it looks like another narrative developer has left the studio.
Senior narrative designer Cara Ellison is no longer on Bloodlines 2. In a statement to PC Gamer, publisher Paradox Interactive confirmed Ellison has left the project, and is also no longer with Bloodlines 2 developer Hardsuit Labs.
"Cara brought fresh ideas to the project and many of her contributions will be present in the game launching next year," a Paradox spokesperson told PC Gamer. "We thank her for her work on Bloodlines 2 and wish her the best in all of her future endeavors."
Ellison, meanwhile, has recently joined Armello developer League of Geeks as a senior narrative designer. The studio recently announced a new partnership with Private Division to create a new game for the publishing label.
While the move wouldn't be alarming in a vacuum, Bloodlines 2 has been having a rocky year, even by 2020 standards. It was delayed again into 2021, and in August, it was confirmed two creative leads had been let go from the project, including original Bloodlines writer Brian Mitsoda. The situation surrounding Mitsoda's departure didn't sound great either, as he told Rock Paper Shotgun that to say his termination came as a shock would be underselling it.
"I was not part of the conversations that led to the decision to delay production, and to my knowledge, there were no delays caused by the Bloodlines 2 narrative development," Mitsoda told RPS. "I am confident and proud of the work that I and my team put forward. When that work will be seen and what form it will take is unknown to me."
Where this leaves the successor to the 2004 cult classic is uncertain. Bloodlines 2 is still in development at Hardsuit Labs, aiming for a launch sometime in 2021. Hopefully it's able to weather the storm of development and turnover.
