Bluepoint Games, the Masters Behind the Shadow of the Colossus Remake, Tease "Big" PS5 Title

The PS5 title could be the remake Bluepoint started working on after releasing 2018's Shadow of the Colossus.

When Sony confirmed the PlayStation 5's name and additional details to Wired, it didn't show off any in-development titles for the system. The closest thing we have to a bonafide PS5 game announcement is a hint from Marco Thrush, president of Bluepoint Games. Bluepoint, makers of 2018's Shadow of the Colossus remake, is working on "a big one" for PS5 that could be the new remake they teased shortly after Shadow's release.

All Thrush chose to tell Wired's Peter Rubin is that Bluepoint is "working on a big one right now" for the PS5. "I'll let you figure out the rest," Thrush adds. In March 2018, Thrush told our sister site Eurogamer that Bluepoint would move on to another remake post-Shadow of the Colossus. "We're really excited about our next project and we think you will be too when you find out what it is," said Thrush.

At that time, Thrush confirmed that Bluepoint was looking to "grow on the art side" after expanding for Shadow of the Colossus, adding that the studio's next remake is "a bit bigger." Yesterday, prior to the publication of Thrush's PS5 comments, Bluepoint broke a months-long silence on Twitter to advertise that it is hiring for new artists and engineering positions.

USgamer's staff took turns naming potential remakes that Bluepoint could tackle next, but the speculation in the responses to Bluepoint's job posting tweet lean heavily towards Demon Souls and Metal Gear Solid. Comments from Demon Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki and a "secret project" tease from Metal Gear series voice actor Donna Burke have fueled recent remake speculation for both games.

Whatever Bluepoint's PS5 project turns out to be, Thrush is excited by the console's potential and the speed of the SSD in particular. "You don't need to do gameplay hacks anymore to artificially slow players down" out of concern for loading, Thrush tells Wired. "Back in the cartridge days, games used to load instantly; we're kind of going back to what consoles used to be."
