Borderlands 3 is Out For Stadia, But It Won't Be Up To Date With Other Platforms For a While

It's out today, but Gearbox is only targeting version parity in early 2020.

Stadia users can now purchase and play Borderlands 3, and as is always the case with Google's game streaming platform, there's no waiting for the game to install or patches to be applied. On the downside, though, at this moment the Stadia version of Borderlands 3 isn't up-to-date with all the patches and content updates released so far.

Gearbox explains the difference between Borderlands 3's Stadia release and those on the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac in a new blog post. "We aim to achieve feature parity for all versions of Borderlands 3 early in 2020," the post reads, "but for the moment the version of the game that you play on Stadia has benefitted from the updates and fixes that were released through October 24."

That means that some free endgame content and features currently aren't present in the Stadia version of Borderlands 3, and the game's first campaign expansion, Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, won't come to Stadia until early 2020. On all other platforms, the Moxxi's Heist DLC is arriving on December 19.

At the moment, Stadia Pro subscribers—that free 3 months from launch hasn't run out yet—can get a discount on Borderlands 3, but even that might not be a strong mover. With a 35% discount on Stadia Pro, the Standard Edition of Borderlands 3 costs $38.99 USD. On Amazon, the PS4 and Xbox One Standard Editions are currently on sale for $34.99. The Stadia Pro sale on all versions of Borderlands 3 continues until January 7, 2020.

Along with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and tomorrow's release of Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Stadia's catalogue of games will hit 25 before the years end. A day before Stadia's launch last month, Google added 10 games to its launch lineup. For more on Stadia, check out Mike's review and his impressions of its performance over public wi-fi.
