Bravely Default 2 Demo is Out Right Now, Full Game Set for 2020

A taste of the next Bravely Default is a short download away.

At today's Nintendo Direct Mini, Nintendo offered more details on Bravely Default 2, the latest RPG from Square Enix. Not only is the game dated for a 2020 release, players can dive in and play a demo today! Yes, there's a demo of Bravely Default 2 on the Nintendo eShop right now.

Bravely Default 2 takes place on the continent of Excillant, which houses five major kingdoms. A young man named Seth washes up on the shores of one of the kingdoms, kicking off the adventure. He's joined by Gloria, a princess of one of the continent's former kingdoms; Elvis, a travel scholar with a powerful accent; and the mercenary Adelle. As before, the adventure is underpinned by a quest for Crystals.

The enemies you'll face are the Asterisk Holders, so named because of the Asterisks they hold that grant them unique abilities. This is Bravely Default 2's version of the job system, and defeating a Holder will grant you a job like Thief or Black Mage. You can set Main and Sub Jobs to combine skill sets.

"Brave" and "Default" once again factor into the combat system. You'll have Brave or Default actions, both of which are about managing your Brave Points (BP). Choosing Brave spends banked points for additional attacks, while Default causes the character to guard and bank 1 BP. The is pretty much the same as past games, so veterans shouldn't expecct any surprises.

Much like Octopath Traveler, Nintendo and Square Enix will be conducting a survey to capture demo feedback, allowing them to tweak and improve the game. 2020 might be a mess, but things are looking up knowing that we're getting Bravely Default 2 this year!

Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
