Zelda Wins Another Game of the Year Award at the GDC Awards

But some surprise winners shook up the usual suspects list.

The awards season for 2017 is drawing to a close as the winners of the Game Developers Choice Awards were announced today at a ceremony during the GDC. You'll find the usual suspect of names that have been sweeping awards season through the year, but also a couple interesting winners.

Some of the big winners tonight were indie darlings such as Gorogoa and Cuphead, while The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took home many of the night's biggest awards, including the biggest prize, Game of the Year.

Below are a list of awards and winners as chosen video game developers.

Best Debut - Studio MDHR (Cuphead)

Best Mobile Game - Gorogoa (Jason Roberts/Buried Signal)

Best Narrative - What Remains of Edith Finch (Giant Sparrow)

Best Audio - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo)

Best Design - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo)

Innovation Awards - Gorogoa (Jason Roberts/Buried Signal)

Best Technology - Horizon Zero Dawn (Guerrilla Games)

Best Visual Art - Cuphead (Studio MDHR)


Audience Award - Nier: Automata (PlatinumGames)

Game of the Year - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Ambassador Award - Rami Ismail

Lifetime Achievement Award - Tim Schafer
