Bugsnax Will Be Free on PS5 at Launch Through PS Plus

If Astro's Playroom isn't up your alley, how about a trip to Snaktooth Island?

It may not be a next-gen exclusive, but I doubt anyone will sneeze at another free launch game on the PlayStation 5. Announced just this morning, Sony and developers Young Horses have partnered to offer Bugsnax as a free PlayStation Plus title on the PS5 next month.

The full PS Plus lineup for November is actually pretty stacked, as it also features the PS4 titles Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition. Bugsnax, though, will be a PS5-only offering and it'll be available for a bit longer, with a free offer window stretching from launch on Nov. 12 to Jan. 4, 2021.

As detailed in a press release from Young Horses, the free PS5 version of Bugsnax offered through PS Plus won't have all the benefits of purchasing the game. Anyone who buys Bugsnax on PS4 can upgrade to the PS5 version for free, and anyone who buys the PS5 version gets it for PS4 as well, but the free PS Plus offer only redeems the PS5 version.

Through Fangamer, Young Horses is also offering physical editions of Bugsnax for PS4 and PS5. If you want your Bugsnax on a platter—sorry, a disc—you will need to wait until Q1 2021 to get it.

Offering Bugsnax right at the PS5's launch as a free PS Plus title should help bolster the appeal of Sony's new console and its online services. Earlier this week, Sony announced that it would delay its car combat launch title Destruction AllStars to February and will also offer it as a free PS Plus game upon release. On top of those two limited-time offers for PS5 titles, PS Plus subscribers get access to Sony's new PlayStation Plus Collection exclusively on PS5.

The PlayStation Plus Collection catalog doesn't measure up to Xbox Game Pass in terms of quantity and variety, but the quality is there. Made up mostly of first-party PS4 titles like God of War, Bloodborne, and Uncharted 4, it also includes some third-party PS4 gems like Persona 5 and Resident Evil 7.
