Just days after posting and then quickly deleting a teaser for a Destiny 2 reveal on June 9, Bungie has followed up with yet another clip and is holding fast to the same date.
"The future of Destiny 2 arrives," so Bungie's announcement promises, at 9 a.m. P.T. on Tuesday June 9. Bungie links to a splash page for the reveal in its tweet, which doesn't immediately appear to be hiding any secrets or hints about the event.
This second go at a tease for the reveal does include a new, short video pointing toward what's coming next for Destiny 2. In it, we see rogue Guardian and Gambit operator The Drifter pilot a ship out of a hangar and toward what looks an awful lot like Jupiter's moon Europa.
This builds upon the short clip that Bungie uploaded and then took down on Monday, which showed Eris Morn—another not-so-average Guardian—trudging through a mysterious, icy landscape. It's still unclear why Bungie removed the video when it did, though it may have been in line with delays we've seen due to the widespread protests against police brutality. Later that day Bungie posted a statement in support of the Black Lives Matter, promising donations and that it would also contribute more "to the fight for justice in our country, and globally" in other ways to come.
With two videos now suggesting that Europa will be introduced to Destiny 2, this certainly seems like it's a build-up for a reveal of a new full-fledged expansion and not an extension of Destiny 2's seasonal content. Since 2019's launch of Shadowkeep, Bungie's first post-Activision expansion, Destiny 2 has gone through a number of changes as it tries to provide worthy seasonal content updates without introducing bloat or too much FOMO ("fear of missing out") from limited-time events.
Whatever this reveal turns out to be, it's possible that it could line up with another big change for the way people play Destiny 2, just as Shadowkeep's release coincided with the base game going free-to-play. Bungie has already announced that Destiny 2 is coming to next-gen consoles in some fashion, so perhaps some Guardians will be taking their first steps on Europa while playing on brand-new hardware.
