Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's DLC Maps Are Free This Weekend

Black Ops 4 is giving out double XP too.

During my thrilling time as an avid Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 fan, I'd often gaze longingly at the DLC maps, relegated to their own playlist. Sometimes, an exclamation point would appear by my username, as if to say, "Hey dummy, spend money on our season pass!" I refrained, knowing that annoyingly the DLC maps were stuck in their own playlists, impossible to do a random jumble of base maps and DLC maps on a whim. I would always have to choose which selections to play.

Luckily this weekend, myself and other non-season pass holders will get a chance to play all of Black Ops 4's current maps for no extra cost. The maps locked behind the season pass are Madagascar, Casino, Elevation, and Lockup. Eventually, there will be 12 maps in total released through the season pass. It's an expensive season pass too: $50, making it hard to justify for some players; especially those (like me) that don't play Zombies mode. The free DLC maps run through to 10 a.m. PT on Monday, March 18.

To coincide with the timed-free maps, Black Ops 4 is also hosting a double XP weekend. Players will earn 2XP in both standard multiplayer and Zombies, as well as 2X merits in Blackout. Tier progression is also be doubled.

In other Black Ops 4 news, this week kicked off the Shamrock and Awe event for St. Patrick's Day on PlayStation 4. The event will join PC and Xbox One next week, as per PS4's timed exclusivity. The event brings a new stormy weather variant to the Contraband map, a spring-themed makeover to the Blackout map, and much more.

Black Ops 4 controversially added in loot boxes in February 2019, to the ire of fans. Loot boxes were yet another microtransaction, on top of the already existing season pass and battle pass-like Contraband system. After backlash, Treyarch fixed the loot boxes so that a version of them could also be earned in-game, not just purchased with money.
