Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Plot and Next-Gen Upgrade Plans Leaked
A new leak details the plot of Black Ops Cold War, as well as Activision's next-gen upgrade plans.
The runup to the reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been anything but smooth, and today's new leaks have continued that trend. Several new leaks surrounding the upcoming game have revealed its plot, as well as Activision's next-gen plans surrounding the game.
Firstly, the plot description of Black Ops Cold War was posted online earlier today by CODtracker, which claims to have found files detailing the upcoming game in a new patch for Modern Warfare that went live earlier today. Black Ops Cold War is reportedly a direct sequel to Treyarch's original Black Ops, and will take place within the years of the Reagan Administration.
"The iconic Black Ops series is back with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War - the direct sequel to the original and fav-favorite Call of Duty: Black Ops," the datamined description reads. "Black Ops Cold War will drop fans into the depths of the Cold War's volatile geopolitical battle of the early 1980s. Nothing is ever as it seems in a gripping single-player campaign, where players will come face-to-face with historical figures and hard truths, as they battle around the globe through iconic locales like East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, Soviet KGB headquarters and more.
The description further adds that former Black Ops characters Mason, Woods, and Hudson will be returning for Black Ops Cold War, along with a slew of new characters. Additionally, the new game will also feature multiplayer and zombies modes.
Elsewhere, regular Call of Duty leaker and dataminer @BKToor_ on Twitter has unearthed evidence of several different versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. There's the standard edition, Ultimate Edition, and crucially a version called the Cross-Gen Bundle. This points to Activision locking next-gen upgrades for Black Ops Cold War behind a higher price point, as the standard edition of the game is set to release for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
There's little over a day left to go until the official Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War reveal. It'll be taking place at the conclusion of the Summer Games Fest with Geoff Keighley tomorrow, on August 26. Until confirmation comes in, take all of the above with a grain or two of salt.
