The Pan European Game Information, or PEGI, which serves as Europe's version of the ESRB has just rated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered for Activision Blizzard UK. The rating potentially confirms that Infinity Ward's second Modern Warfare game is also getting a remastered treatment.
Though the official PEGI website lists a release date for February 28, this is certainly just a placeholder date. Considering Activision Blizzard hasn't announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, it's hard to get an exact timing on the official release date, or even the release window.
Modern Warfare 2 was released in 2009 to critical acclaim. It was a direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which kicked off a new era of Call of Duty games. The first Modern Warfare game also received the Remastered treatment back in 2017. Initially, Modern Warfare Remastered was released as part of a bundle with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, but was later released as a standalone purchase in 2017. There was some controversy with how Activision Blizzard released additional multiplayer maps for Modern Warfare Remastered as paid DLC.
It's curious that PEGI specifically rated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. This could suggest Activision Blizzard might be looking to split up the single-player and multi-player modes. Or, that this rating only applies to the single-player portions of the remaster.
Modern Warfare 2 is rated PEGI 18 for violence and language. The first Modern Warfare Remastered is being offered to PS4 players for free as part of March's PS Plus games.
