Here’s what you need to know about the Modern Warfare Gunfight Alpha on PS4.

Activision just announced another way for Call of Duty fans to try out Modern Warfare early. As well as the upcoming beta test, there’s a small limited-time alpha coming to PS4 this weekend, allowing players to try out the new gunfight 2v2 mode. To help get you up to speed, we’ve put together this Call of Duty Modern Warfare Alpha Guide. We’ll cover the Modern Warfare PS4 Alpha Times, and take a look at whether or not it will be coming to other platforms. Given that gunfight is an online mode, we’ll also set the record straight on whether or not you’ll need a PS Plus subscription to get involved.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare Alpha Times

Let’s start by taking a look at when you’ll be able to try out Modern Warfare’s gunfight mode as part of the Alpha. You’ll be able to play the gunfight Alpha this Friday, August 23, right up until Sunday, August 25. The start times are as follows:

  • East Coast US: 1pm (EDT)
  • West Coast US: 10am (PDT)
  • UK: 6pm (BST)
  • Europe: 7pm (CEST)

How to Access the Modern Warfare Alpha

Unlike the upcoming beta, you won’t have to pre-order Modern Warfare to gain access to the gunfight Alpha. Instead, it’s open to all PS4 players, so you’ll just need to head to the PS Store to download it on the day.

What is Gunfight?

Gunfight is a brand new mode being added for Call of Duty Modern Warfare. It is a 2v2 mode in which the first team to win five rounds wins. Each team begins each round with a random weapon loadout, from pistols to rocket launchers, and everything in between. The opposing team starts with the same loadout, so you can predict and adapt to the enemy. Call of Duty Modern Warfare Gunfight Alpha Maps

There are five maps available for the Gunfight Alpha. These will cycle randomly, so you should get a chance to try each of them out. The five maps are as follows:

  • Docks (new)
  • Speedball (new)
  • King
  • Pine
  • Stack

Do You Need a PS Plus Subscription to Play the Modern Warfare Alpha?

Activision is opening the Modern Warfare Gunfight Alpha up to all PS4 users. This means that you will not need a PS Plus subscription in order to play.

Will the Modern Warfare Alpha Come to Xbox One and PC?

This console generation sees Sony holding the bonus exclusivity rights for Call of Duty. This means that things like the Gunfight Alpha are actually PS4 exclusive, and Xbox One/ PC players will have to wait until the beta to get a taste.
