Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Season 5 is fast approaching, and with it comes a new batch of Operators. The trio of incoming characters all work under the enigmatic umbrella of Shadow Company, and it sounds like Infinity Ward is pushing the lore even further with this update.
According to the Activision blog, the Shadow Company is a group of Allegiance Operators who are "impatient" with the Coalition and Captain Price. The three highly skilled operatives decide to take matters into their own hands, and so former Jackals warrior Rozlin "Roze" Helms joins Velikan and Marcus "Lerch" Ortega to form the Shadow Company.
As much as I enjoy a good Call of Duty campaign, I haven't personally followed much of the deep lore that's sprung up around the continuous updates through Spec Ops and Warzone. Since the mode launch, Warzone has changed and evolved, and even become a storytelling device for Call of Duty outside of its usual action-packed single-player campaign, much like other battle royales.
Though it doesn't seem as impactful as a black hole or a Travis Scott concert, these new Operators do seem to be adding a twist to the Modern Warfare lore. They're more impatient and shadowy than Captain Price, which is saying something. The Warzone could always use a splinter faction of clandestine warfighters to spice things up. You can catch up on the full story so far on Activision's blog here for a more in-depth breakdown.
Modern Warfare's fifth season launches next week on Aug. 5, 2020.
