Call of Duty: Warzone Introducing Saw and Texas Chainsaw Massacre Crossover for Halloween
Jigsaw and Leatherface missed the turn for Mortal Kombat and ended up in Verdansk?
You know, whenever I watch a Saw movie or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I always find myself thinking "these guys need to just pick up tac'd-out rifles and start going wild." Okay, the thought has never actually crossed my mind, but that's exactly what Jigsaw and Leatherface will do as part of The Haunting of Verdansk, a new Halloween update for Call of Duty: Warzone.
As part of the season six rollout for Warzone and Modern Warfare, The Haunting of Verdansk will bring the Call of Duty battle royale one step closer to 2020's new addition to the series. Horror movie crossover skins aside, The Haunting of Verdansk will also add a new Zombie Royale mode that replaces Warzone's signature gulag with an undead twist: get killed and you'll reanimate as a zombie, but collect two syringes by killing two living players and you'll get to drop in again. Right now it's not clear if it'll share much lore with Treyarch's Black Ops Zombies storyline, but with Cold War coming next month it may be time for a tie-in.

For folks who aren't interested in buying crossover skins or getting other Halloween items, The Haunting of Verdansk also adds a new variation on Warzone's key locale: nighttime Verdansk. Even in the regular Trios mode, players will be able to drop into Verdansk under cover of night for some stealth-friendly battle royale action. It sounds like there'll still be some spooky stuff to discover around the map and underneath it, but Verdansk after dark should definitely be interesting even without ghoulish intervention.
Modern Warfare's getting in on the Halloween vibes as well. On top of some spooky multiplayer-wide decoration tweaks, operators in all modes will have their heads turn into jack-o-lanterns if they get three or more kills in a single life, with the lanterns then lighting ablaze past ten kills. If you see a Headless Horseman-looking dude on the other team, that means you're in for trouble.
The Haunting of Verdansk update drops tomorrow, Oct. 20. Limited time offers and modes will last until Nov. 3. That's just ten days before the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, which will debut for the PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, PS4, and PS5 on Nov. 13.
