Fresh from a fiscal year where expectations were missed on all of the company's major releases, Capcom is preparing for the next fiscal year. The list of titles announced for the year is slim, but E3 2017 is right around the corner. In its strategic overview for the next fiscal year, Capcom is promising one unannounced major title for release.
This title joins ongoing sales of Resident Evil 7 and the release of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite as the major tentpoles of Capcom's next year. Sales expectations put Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite at 2 million sold during the year, while further RE7 sales total the same amount.
What could the major title be? Deep Down has been incognito for some time now, so perhaps that's due for a return. Fans are hoping for Devil May Cry 5, and that might be on the docket.
Given that Capcom is expecting 2.7 million software units sold in Japan, I'm guessing that major title is a new Monster Hunter game. With the 2.7 million number, I'd expect that release to be launching on either the 3DS or PlayStation 4. The Switch doesn't currently have the install base to reach those numbers, though it could be a solid second platform for either a 3DS or PS4 release.
Capcom is committed to launching more console re-releases, like the upcoming Resident Evil 2 Remake and the recently-released Disney Afternoon Collection. The company also said it was looking to promote more multiplatform development, including for the Nintendo Switch.
