Matt Thorson of Matt Makes Games had a pretty good year considering his team's latest, Celeste, ended up in many a game of the year 2019 lists (ours included). To celebrate Celeste's success Thorson announced the team is going to release some farewell Celeste levels next year while teasing something new from the team.
"We're working on some farewell Celeste levels, which should be ready in early 2019," Thorson wrote in a Tweet. "They're very hard," he adds. Celeste sold over 500,000 copies this year which is a huge win for the team.
What's more next year Thorson and co. will also apparently announce whatever's next for them which at this point could be anything.
We're working on some farewell Celeste levels, which should be ready in early 2019. They're very hard. And we'll be announcing what's next for us in the new year as well. See you in 2019 :)— Matt Thorson (@MattThorson) December 21, 2018
Celeste got a glowing review from us at the start of the year and we ended up giving it our number two spot in our Top 20 Games of 2018 list. I wrote that Celeste was virtually flawless, more so than any other game on our Game of the Year list. Congratulations again to Thorson and the team at Matt Makes Games.
