Charming Adventure Game Knights and Bikes Finally Gets a Release Date

This Goonies-esque adventure will be here pretty soon.

The Kickstarted indie adventure Knights and Bikes will finally see a release date, and it's sooner than you might think. Knights and Bikes will launch August 27 for PC via Steam and PlayStation 4.

A 1980's coming-of-age story set in the British isles, protagonists Nessa and Demelza explore their island looking for treasure and adventure. Playable either single-player or two players through co-op, it seems like a very Goonies-style tale, by way of real-world role-playing games like Costume Quest.

Knights and Bikes comes by way of developer Foam Sword, comprised of two former Media Molecule devs: Rex Crowle, who was creative lead on Tearaway, and Moo Yu, who worked on Ratchet & Clank and Moshi Monsters. Between adventures in Knights and Bikes, you're able to upgrade your bike and develop weapons to combat danger, like water balloons and amplified boomboxes. It's charming and almost nostalgic, like remembering the imaginary play-days of yesteryear.

Beyond just a cute aesthetics and the promise of role-playing fun, the Foam Sword team is also collaborating on audio with two people. Kenneth CM Young, who worked on LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway, is handling Audio Direction, while an original score from Daniel Pemberton (Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse, LittleBigPlanet) rounds out the soundscape of Knights and Bikes. It already seems set to stand out among the growing flood of games hitting at the end of this month.

We got some hands-on time with Knights and Bikes at EGX Rezzed 2018, and back then it was a promising indie gem that also grew into one of the potential success stories of Kickstarter. In just a couple weeks, we'll get to see just how the crowdfunding plan worked out for the team.
