Civilization VI Offers Multiple Leaders For Certain Civilizations

At launch, Greece will have two leaders to choose from.

Today, 2K Games and Firaxis have revealed the newest leader for Civilization VI: Queen Gorgo of Greece. Gorgo was the queen of Sparta, married to King Leonidas I in the 5th century BC. She and Leonidas lead Sparta in the Greco-Persian Wars as they sought to unite their people against a potential invasion by Xerxes. If you've seen the movie 300, then you'll likely remember Game of Throne's Cersei Lannister, Lena Headey, as Queen Gorgo.

The announcement of Queen Gorgo might give you pause if you've been following Civilization VI news, as Greece's leader was already announced as Pericles. It seems that Civilization VI will offer multiple leaders per civilization, with each leader having different abilities and agendas. Gorgo's leader ability is Themopylae, allowing her to gain Culture for conflict. Her agenda causes her to dislike any civs that have never fought in a war or surrendered in a peace deal.

It also looks like choosing Gorgo will change the visuals of Greece slightly. Instead of the blue of Pericles' Greece, Gorgo's will be brown. Her starting city will be automatically named Sparta, not Athens like Pericles' version.

Hopefully we'll be hearing of more alternate Civilization leaders up until the October 21 release date of Civilization VI on PC.
