The throwback run-n-gun action of Cuphead was a surprise hit years ago. Developer Studio MDHR has been working on its forthcoming DLC, the "Delicious Last Course," for a while now, and today it's announcing it won't hit the 2020 window after all.
In a statement shared to Twitter, studio founders Chad and Jared Moldenhauer say they aren't content for this last chapter to be "anything less" than their best work. The current realities of game development during a pandemic, however, have added unpredictable complications to meeting that standard.
"Rather than compromise on our vision in response to COVID, we've made the difficult decision to push back the release of the Delicious Last Course until we are confident it will delight the Cuphead community the way we feel it should," the pair writes.
Previously set for release sometime this year, Cuphead's Delicious Last Course looks like it will be a finale of sorts for the 2017 indie. A trailer shown last year had some tough-looking new bosses, but still retains that signature Cuphead look and charm.
It may be a bit longer until we get the last course of Cuphead, but there are other options on the way to tide you over in the meantime. Netflix released a preview reel of the upcoming Cuphead series earlier this year, and it's already looking pretty interesting. Cuphead has been famous for both its animation style and notorious difficulty, and it's probably a good sign the team is taking extra time to make sure everything is tuned just right.
