Yesterday, CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 would be delayed by two months, moving from a September launch to November 2020. Following this news, CD Projekt revealed new details about their game's next-gen upgrades.
Last night in an investor call, CD Projekt studio executive Michał Nowakowski revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 players on current-gen consoles will be able to play the game on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 with better visuals as soon as either console launches. This is basically a free next-gen upgrade for anyone who already owns Cyberpunk 2077 and is transitioning up to the next console generation.
As soon as either console is available, there'll be a day one update to Cyberpunk 2077 to improve visuals for the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game. However, according to Nowakowski, later on down the line CD Projekt will deliver a "more robust update for next gen," which the developer plans to release "free of charge to anyone who purchases the PS4 or Xbox One versions."
Previously, we knew that Cyberpunk 2077 would receive a free upgrade to Xbox Series X for those that purchased the game on the Xbox One, using Microsoft's Smart Delivery system. The big news today is confirmation that there is a free upgrade planned for the PlayStation 5 as well for anyone who purchases the game on the PS4.
So, it sounds like there'll be a simple day one patch on next-gen for Cyberpunk 2077 before more detailed advancements arrive for the newer consoles later on. It's anybody's guess as to when these "robust" upgrades could arrive, but it'll likely be at some point in 2021, considering Cyberpunk 2077 is now set to launch on November 19, 2020.
