Why Cyberpunk 2077 Won't Have Mod Support at Launch
Though there's still a chance for post-launch mod support.
Cyberpunk 2077 will not have mod support at launch, CD Projekt Red confirmed. While the studio's previous The Witcher games support a variety of mods, players will have to wait a bit longer to see what weird stuff they can come up with in the Cyberpunk universe as the devs are focusing on actually shipping the game first.
Over at the official CD Projekt Red forums, community lead Marcin Momot wrote, "We have no plans to share at the moment. Obviously, we would love to support the modding community in the future, but for the time being we want to focus on releasing the game first."
Momot doesn't rule out mod support for Cyberpunk 2077 in the future. Only that the feature won't ship with the game, whenever that might be.
While mod support at launch is nice, obviously the studio's focus is on finishing the game first. And though mod support isn't confirmed, it seems CDPR is open to the idea. Especially considering the number of mods players have made for the various Witcher games, including one that adds little helmets to all the chickens in the game.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an upcoming first-person RPG set in the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop RPG universe. Cyberpunk 2077 does not currently have a release date, but the developers will be showing the game off at E3 2019 this year.
We got a chance to see Cyberpunk 2077 at last year's E3 and came away very impressed with what we saw. Hopefully, we'll get another new look at this year's event. Check out our Cyberpunk 2077 guide for more coverage.
