On May 23, The Daily Show host Trevor Noah will be hosting the unveiling event for Battlefield 5. Previously it was unknown what title the next Battlefield game would sport, but the trailer for the event makes it clear the "V" for 5 is the official branding for the game.
The next Battlefield game was first rumored to be a third Bad Company entry, but those rumors proved to be unsubstantiated. Instead, the next Battlefield game will be a direct continuation of Battlefield 1 and take place in World War 2. Instead of Battlefield 2 however, DICE was apparently readying the game as Battlefield 5, stylized with roman numeral V which plays a prominent part in this trailer.
#ad The rumors are true (rumors that I started, but still...) I will be hosting the @Battlefield Live Reveal on Wed, May 23rd. Catch it streaming live on the #Battlefield YouTube. V EXCITING! pic.twitter.com/7B3fpTpQ6x— Trevor Noah (@Trevornoah) May 16, 2018
Battlefield 5 will be consistent with Battlefield 1, with a emphasis on story and co-op. There's even rumors of a procedurally generated Conquest mode, though to be honest the rumors for the many modes in Battlefield 5 are numerous.
Other leaks suggested that Battlefield 5 will only have cosmetic loot boxes and an emphasis on personalization. No doubt in response to the loot box controversy from EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2. What's more Battlefield 5 might even have a battle royale mode.
This makes sense considering at a recent earnings report EA themselves cited Fortnite as a way to grow Battlefield's audience. We will see the full details when the game is unveiled on May 23.
Trevor Noah, who's most well-known for his role as host of Comedy Central's The Daily Show will be hosting the reveal event. Comedians hosting video game shows isn't uncommon, and many famous comedians have done MC gigs for Ubisoft, The Game Awards, and many more.
