The mind behind Dangarnonpa's killing games has announced a new project today, in a surprising new medium. Kazutaka Kodaka will work with Izanagi Games to develop Death Comes True, a game taking place in full-motion video, or FMV.
While known for his work on Danganronpa, an anime-styled series about killing games and trials, Death Comes True is an interesting new concept for the director. While we don't know much about the plot or set-up, real actors and real-time video will take the place of the usually anime-stylized work in Kodaka's previous games. Think 7th Guest or Contradiction: Spot the Liar.
Is this a movie or a game? This is the official Twitter for Death Come True, a full motion video game written and directed by Kazutaka Kodaka, creator of the Danganronpa series. We will be revealing the lead actor for the game after 24 hours! https://t.co/KSCSETUIG6 #DCT pic.twitter.com/oJKKMfLtm0- Death Come True Official （デスカムトゥルー公式） (@DeathComeTrue) December 9, 2019
The official Twitter account will be revealing the faces of the game over time, starting with the lead actor. But even just the image conjures memories of Zero Escape for me, which might not be too surprising considering Kotaro Uchikoshi, the creator of the Zero Escape series, teamed up with Kodaka last year to work together on new projects.
Basically, if you're a fan of death games and investigations (and if you're not, you should be), this will likely be up your alley. No release date or platform has been set yet. Hopefully there will be some sort of reference to robotic bears with a penchant for despair and elaborate Rube Goldberg-esque devices with a fatal twist.
