Animal Talking, a new late night-style talk show hosted inside Animal Crossing: New Horizons by screenwriter Gary Whitta, has a new celebrity correspondent. Leading the audience around his island is Machete himself, Danny Trejo.
Whitta announced today that starting in June, actor Danny Trejo will be Animal Talking's Animal Crossing correspondent, leading the audience around his island and introducing the various villagers that live there. It basically sounds like a series of guided tours around Trejo's island, which sounds positively pleasant.
Trejo has already appeared on Whitta's talk show, which has been rapidly growing in popularity. Trejo's appearance was alongside fellow actors Greg Grunberg and Elijah Wood, as well as "Jessica," the Animal Crossing player who went viral after Wood visited her island to sell turnips.
Animal Talking is an incredibly inventive use of Animal Crossing: New Horizons as a social space, capitalizing on tools like voice apps and streaming to put together a late night show in the virtual world. As it's grown in popularity, it's been wild to see just what is coming together for the show each week. Seriously, "Danny Trejo is the Animal Crossing correspondent for Gary Whitta's virtual talk show" is not a sentence I thought I'd be typing at the start of 2020.
It's been just over a month since Animal Crossing: New Horizons came out for the Nintendo Switch, and yet it feels like it's already become a core piece of the human experience as people are staying indoors and hoarding turnips. We might as well move our late night celebrity cameos onto the islands of Animal Crossing, too.
