Dark Souls 3: All Covenants and Rewards

Join every covenant and earn multiplayer rewards.

This guide will explain all of the available covenants in Dark Souls 3, and how to find each covenant leader or shrine. Covenants are unique factions that primarily deal with both PvP and co-op multiplayer activities. Players can join a covenant upon receiving a covenant insignia, usually from a covenant leader. Review each covenant in this guide and decide where your loyalties lie.

Each covenant is guided by a central philosophy that determines its membership activities. Some covenants are meant to aid other players through co-op or defensive summoning, while other covenants encourage hostile invasions and competitive PvP.

Most covenants offer reward items to loyal members who fulfill their duty to the covenant, whether it’s helping a player defeat a boss, fending off hostile invaders, or even hunting other players who trespass on certain territory. These rewards come in the form of specific items that represent a completed task, such as Pale Tongues or Sunlight Medals. These rewards can then be taken to the appropriate covenant leader or shrine to increase one’s covenant rank. Offering a certain number of these items will grant new weapons and spells to reward players for their covenant loyalty.

To join a covenant, players must obtain the covenant’s insignia, which often requires speaking to a covenant leader and requesting membership into the covenant. A covenant insignia can then be equipped in the covenant slot on the inventory menu to signify membership. A player’s current equipped covenant is indicated by the emblem in the upper left corner of the display beside the health meter. Covenants can be switched on the fly without penalty, allowing players to change up their methods when engaging in multiplayer activities.

We have listed each of the available covenants below, in the relative order in which they are encountered in the game. We will also explain the steps to join each covenant, which sometimes involves quests from other NPCs. Whether you prefer hunting down unsuspecting players, or helping others through co-op, you will likely find a covenant that’s right for you.

Way of Blue

The Way of Blue is the first covenant most players will encounter in the game. To join this covenant, players must enter the church in the High Wall of Lothric on the way to Vordt of the Boreal Valley. Speak to Emma to receive a small banner, then speak with her a second time to obtain the Way of Blue covenant insignia.

The Way of Blue covenant is meant to protect players from hostile invaders. While the Way of Blue insignia is equipped, members of the Blue Sentinels or Darkmoon Blades will automatically be summoned to aid you when being invaded by a hostile red phantom.

There are no rewards received for this covenant, as it is purely defensive and doesn’t require direct participation in specific multiplayer activities. Way of Blue is best for exploring new areas while embered. This allows you to receive protection from hostile red invaders after successful boss encounters, while also helping Blue Sentinels and Darkmoon Blades earn their covenant rewards.

Warrior of Sunlight

Jolly cooperation is the driving philosophy behind this friendly covenant. Players can discover the Warrior of Sunlight insignia while exploring the Undead Settlement. From the Undead Settlement Bonfire, proceed through the building ahead to reach a courtyard with several enemies standing around a fire. Head down the path to the left of the fire, away from the bridge, and enter a small house. To the right of the entrance, drop down a hole in the floor into a lower room. The Warrior of Sunlight insignia is on a nearby table.

Summon signs placed by Warriors of Sunlight appear as bright gold, signifying a friendly co-op companion. Warriors of Sunlight appear as a white-gold phantom and are often summoned to help other players navigate tough regions and defeat bosses. Invading players as a Warrior of Sunlight causes the invader to appear as a red-gold phantom instead. Sunlight Medals are awarded to Warriors of Sunlight for helping others defeat bosses in co-op, or for successfully killing a host during an invasion.

Warriors of Sunlight can bring their medals to the Altar of Sunlight, a shrine found in Lothric Castle much later in the game. From the Dragonslayer Armour Bonfire, go back across the bridge and head toward the building on the right. Climb the ladder and cross over the rooftop, then climb down at the other side. Inside a room near the end of the bridge is a broken statue that serves as the Altar of Sunlight. Offer Sunlight Medals to the altar to receive new miracle spells.

The Mound-makers are a crazy bunch, prepared to combat anyone who summons them. Members of the Mound-makers covenant will appear as purple phantoms, and will also place a purple summon sign on the ground regardless of whether they used a White or Red Soapstone. Mound-maker summon signs from a Red Soapstone will have a slight red highlight. Like other invaders, members of this covenant will often use a Red Soapstone summon sign to prevent being attacked by enemy AI in the host's world.

Mound-makers are capable of attacking any player in a host's world, including the host, even when summoned with a White Soapstone summon sign. This dynamic makes for some interesting encounters. However, you won't be able to traverse the fog to join the host for their boss fight. When a Mound-maker successfully defeats hosts or other phantoms, they receive a Vertebra Shackle. Hosts who defeat a Mound-maker will receive a Vertebra Shackle as well. Offer Vertebra Shackles to the covenant shrine beneath the Curse-rotted Greatwood chamber to deepen your bond with this faction.

There are two ways to join the Mound-makers covenant, depending on your progress in the game. If you have not yet defeated the Curse-rotted Greatwood, you can find this covenant in the Undead Settlement. Travel to the Undead Settlement Bonfire, and continue until you reach the bridge. Cross the bridge to the right, then look for another path to the right just before the stables. Defeat the slaves on the rooftops, then climb the ladder to reach the roof on the right. Drop down onto another path near the cliff where you’ll find a hollow manservant with a cage on his back. Don’t attack. Approach the cage on his back from behind, and press examine when prompted. After the cut scene, you will travel to a chamber beneath the boss arena, where you can meet Holy Knight Hodrick and join the Mound-makers covenant.

If you already have defeated the Curse-rotted Greatwood, then you must now pursue Sirris’ questline until she gives you the gesture mentioned below in the Blade of the Darkmoon covenant steps. After you receive the gesture, proceed through the game until you reach the Irithyll of the Boreal Valley Bonfire. Look for her white summon sign near the bridge, and aid Sirris in her objective. When finished, return to the main entryway outside the Greatwood’s chamber. Look for another summon sign from Sirris, and aid her once more to receive a token to join the Mound-makers covenant. Note that joining Rosaria’s Fingers will bar off Sirris’ questline, preventing you from joining the Mound-makers through this method.

Blue Sentinels

The Blue Sentinels pride themselves on protecting those in the Way of Blue. When a Way of Blue covenant member is invaded by a hostile red spirit, a Blue Sentinels member will automatically be summoned to come to their aid. To join the Blue Sentinels, players must travel along the Road of Sacrifices to reach the Halfway Fortress Bonfire and meet Anri and Horace. After speaking to Anri, talk to Horace to obtain the Blue Sentinels insignia.

Those who fulfill their duty as a Blue Sentinel are rewarded with a Proof of a Concord Kept for each successfully defeated hostile red phantom, and for escorting a host to their boss battle. The Blue Sentinels report to Company Captain Yorshka, who is also the covenant leader for the Blade of the Darkmoon. This covenant leader is found on a high tower near the Prison Tower Bonfire. Read the section on the Blade of the Darkmoon covenant for details on how to reach Yorshka.

Watchdogs of Farron

The Watchdogs of Farron defend the area surrounding Farron Keep from intruders. When an embered player passes through Farron Keep, a Watchdog of Farron will automatically be summoned to ward off the trespasser and defend their territory. Members of the Watchdogs of Farron will receive a Wolf’s Blood Swordgrass for each intruding player they eliminate.

To join this covenant, head to the Farron Keep and follow the fires to navigate through the poisonous swamp. Before reaching the large door near the perimeter, look for a long ladder on the side of the stone structure with several slugs crowding the base of the ladder. Climb the ladder to reach a room containing the Old Wolf of Farron and a bonfire. Pray to the Old Wolf to join the Watchdogs of Farron and receive the covenant insignia. Offer the Wolf’s Blood Swordgrass you’ve collected to the Old Wolf to deepen your relationship with the covenant and earn new items.

Rosaria’s Fingers

Rosaria’s Fingers is a covenant dedicated to hunting other players in competitive PvP. Members of this covenant serve a silent leader named Rosaria, bringing her Pale Tongues collected from their successful invasions.

Rosaria’s Fingers members invade other worlds as hostile red phantoms, and receive Pale Tongues upon defeating the host of embers. When a Rosaria’s Finger covenant member defeats a defensive blue spirit, they will instead earn a Forked Pale Tongue for double the reward. Rosaria also offers her loyal members the ability to respec their character attributes and change their appearance. This can be done up to five times in a single playthrough, and costs Pale Tongues for each change made.

To join Rosaria’s Fingers, you must locate Rosaria on an upper floor of the Cathedral of the Deep. Doing so usually involves scaling the rooftops and dropping down from the rafters to reach Rosaria’s floor. Her room is on the upper floor above the second giant. Pledge your loyalty to Rosaria to join her covenant, and begin invading to your heart’s content. Return to bring Rosaria your Pale Tongues to receive new items.

Keep in mind that joining Rosaria’s Fingers will prevent you from pursuing quests from Sirris, which are necessary for joining other covenants. If you are looking to gain access to all covenants, consider waiting to join Rosaria’s Fingers until after completing tasks for Sirris.

Aldrich Faithful

Similar to the Watchdogs of Farron, the Aldrich Faithful covenant ensures that Aldrich remains undisturbed. When an embered player trespasses on the territory outside the cathedral in Irithyll of the Boreal Valley, members of the Aldrich Faithful are automatically summoned to fend off the intruders.

Aldrich Faithful invaders appear as dark blue phantoms with red undertones. Aldrich Faithful who fulfill their covenant duty are awarded with Human Dregs for their efforts. Take these Human Dregs to Archdeacon McDonnell to prove your loyalty to the covenant and earn new items.

To join the Aldrich Faithful, start at the Pontiff Sulyvahn bonfire in Irithyll of the Boreal Valley. Go forward through the doors ahead of the bonfire, and curve around the corner to the left. Head toward the tower on the opposite side of the courtyard containing giants. Enter the tower, and strike an illusory wall in the corner beneath the stairs. Climb down the ladder to the water filled chamber below, and discover the covenant leader in the far left corner. Pledge loyalty to Archdeacon McDonnell to join the covenant and receive the Aldrich Faithful insignia.

Blade of the Darkmoon

The Blade of the Darkmoon covenant is essentially the original version of the Blue Sentinels. Members of this covenant will be summoned to aid Way of Blue covenant members who are being invaded by red spirits. Joining this covenant is a bit tricky, as it involves completing a separate NPC questline and reaching a hidden tower at the back of Irithyll of the Boreal Valley.

To become a Darkmoon Knight, you must first complete a series of steps related to Sirris of the Sunless Realms. Keep in mind that joining Rosaria’s Fingers will prevent you from completing Sirris’ questline. Consider completing all of Sirris’ activities before pursuing either of these covenants.

After meeting Anri and Horace along the Road of Sacrifices, return to Firelink Shrine to meet Sirris on the stairs near the bonfire. When you eventually reach Farron Keep, locate the Old Wolf of Farron and collect the Dreamchaser’s Ashes from the upper window. Give the ashes to the Shrine Handmaid, then travel to leave the area. Return to Firelink Shrine to speak with Sirris once again, and she will give you the gesture needed to join this covenant.

The Blade of the Darkmoon covenant leader is Company Captain Yorshka. To find Yorshka, start at Anor Londo bonfire and walk back down the spiral staircase. Walk to the end of the small platform at the bottom of the stairs, and look out across the expanse toward a distant tower. You should be able to see the bonfire on the balcony of the tower in the distance.

Face the drop off, and prepare to take a step of faith. Step out onto an invisible walkway and continue toward the tower. When you align with the tower balcony, drop down onto the balcony platform to light the bonfire and speak with Yorshka around the corner. Perform the gesture given to you by Sirris to join this covenant and become a Darkmoon Knight. Bring her your Proof of a Concord Kept to strengthen your ties to the covenant.
